Geraniums like to be hot and dry, plant them where
they will receive afternoon sun. Plants should reach 10-12 tall and
wide with proper care. Any color of Geranium pairs nicely with Blue
Ageratum, Dusty Miller, and White Alyssum in flower beds. For hanging
baskets, window boxes or container gardens, mix with other plants that
prefer hot and dry, such as Petunias, Asparagus Fern and Spikes.
Deadhead spent flowers regularly to ensure continued blooming.

Bedding Begonias, also known as Fibrous Begonias, can
be grown in morning or afternoon sun. If put in morning sun, they will
not require as much water, while in the hot afternoon sun they will need
regular watering. Overhead water in the morning is best, as the water
has time to dry off the plants before the cooler temperatures of night.
Fibrous Begonias are very versatile, being well-suited for flower beds,
hanging baskets, window boxes and container gardens. Begonias can reach
24-30 in full sun with lots of water and fertilizer.

Impatiens are happiest planted in a north or east
exposure where they get the weaker sun of the morning and late
afternoon. With regular water and fertilizer, they can reach
24-30 tall in flower beds. Mix them in hanging baskets, window
boxes and container gardens with Tuberous Begonias, Million Bells, Sweet
Potato Vine, Asparagus Fern, Fuchsia, New Guinea Impatiens, Coleus, and
Lobelia. As they grow, they will need more water and fertilizer
regularly. Again, morning watering is best.

Our Janie Series, or French Marigolds, reach 9-10
when full sized, and the Discovery Series, or African Marigolds, can
reach 14 or more. Marigolds are workhorses in the flower
bed, they tolerate hot and dry, blooming profusely all summer long.
Deadheading can extend bloom time and encourage repeat flowering.
Mix with Blue Ageratum, or any Petunias for tremendous curb appeal.
Marigolds are not typically used in containers, but they will perform
well mixed with Geraniums, Petunias, Asparagus Fern & Spikes. Many
gardeners plant Marigolds in between rows of Tomatoes and Peppers to
discourage insects.

Cutting your herbs regularly is a great way to keep them healthy and
growing. Most herbs need
afternoon sun to grow well. When
watering, water well and then let dry before watering again.
If you intend to eat your herbs, do not fertilize them, it does
affect their flavor. |

Plant in afternoon sun, fertilize often or use a slow-release fertilizer
applied at planting. Mix with Geraniums, Ageratum, Dusty Miller,
Dahlias, Victoria Blue Salvia or Red Salvia. These Petunias do
require dead-heading for repeat bloom.

Tomatoes are easy to grow, they require as much sun as
you can provide, at least ½ day in the afternoon. When planting,
be sure your soil is rich and tilled to a depth of at least 6, more is
better. The entire tomato plant can be planted, so only the top 2
leaves needs to be out of the ground. Tomatoes can send roots out
along the entire length of their stem, so the deeper you plant them, the
stronger the stem and roots will be. Tomatoes will yield best if
you stake them. Plant Marigolds in between your Tomatoes to
discourage insect pests. Plant tomatoes 24-36 apart.
Keep weeds down in your vegetable plantings. Weeds rob your plants
of water and nutrients.

Plant out peppers when danger of frost is past,
peppers like warm weather. Plant 18-24 apart, apply a
slow-release fertilizer when planting. Apply more fertilizer on
top of soil when first peppers start to set, to encourage repeat
flowering and more peppers. The flowers are followed by the
Peppers...

These are fast-growing, self-cleaning, long-blooming
plants. You may have seen them advertised and they really do grow
like a wave. Self-cleaning means that when flowers are spent they
shrivel up and blow away, no dead-heading required. Because of
their prolific flowering and rapid growth, they do require frequent
fertilizing, but they can also tolerate a bit of drought. Cant
say enough about them, if you havent grown one before, you are in for a
treat!
